Exactly!

A lot of people are saying "pfft, it's just a status update and disappears after an hour" and similar, but the point here is, this is a campaign that breaches the terms that were put in place. If ALL advertisers now started taking this approach on Facebook, it would start turning into exactly what MySpace was 2-3 years ago.

Nice article Damian!

I think people are thinking about this from a single campaign perspective and not if this function was open to all advertisers. It's not allowed because they know that it will be detrimental to user experience and not a smart long term move.

in 2007 part of the reason people made a shift from myspace was they liked the non cluttered and spam free environment that facebook offered. So as an advertiser I am not annoyed that I can't do the same but I am annoyed that people are measuring the success of the campaign because a mistake was made at the approval process.

It will be interesting to see the changes that are made to the app. if it is relaunched

Interesting points. I wasn't aware of that aspect of facebook policy.

I entered this competition, though, and didn't really have a problem with it; because I clicked to enter after seeing someone else's status, and it is pretty clear they didn't write the words themselves, I knew what I was in for and that it would do the same for me.

But i guess it is kind of taking liberties with my account in a sense, and if they are the only ones breaking the rules, it is not fair and other advertisers would be rightly annoyed.
